Northern Disaster

Tragedy has struck a northwestern- Ontario fishing resort. On July 9, at approximately 8:30 p.m., an F2 twister packing wind speeds in excess of 124 miles per hour cut a swath through the Fisherman's Cove Resort on Lac Seul northeast of Kenora, leaving three anglers dead and five injured.
Ironically, the three dead anglers were all from Ponca City, Oklahoma, which lies in the middle of that state's notorious tornado alley. They'd gone to the resort near Ear Falls to fish for walleye and pike. Dead are Stan Hollis, 79; Bernie Jackson, 65; and Dennis Kinkaid, 66. Kinkaid's body was only recovered after a 3-day search of the area's lakes and forests.
The lodge took a massive blow, too, according to owner Keith Denzler. "Two buildings were completely destroyed, but they can and will be restored," he said. "Sadly, the lives of those men cannot be returned."
The injured were treated and released from hospital in Red Lake.
