A Grand Award
By: Bill ThompsonThe GRFMPIC was rewarded on May 4 with the 2009 Recreational Fisheries Awards for its efforts. The award recognizes individuals and organizations for their contribution to the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of Canada's recreational fisheries and their habitat.
Federal Fisheries Minister Gail Shea told the committee it was selected for the award because of its "volunteer efforts to improve the fishery and fish habitat in the Grand River watershed."
Committee member Larry Mellors of Brantford said the group was honoured to receive the award. "The GRFMP is the volunteers' and public's plan, with tremendous technical support from the Grand River Conservation Authority, MNR, and other government and academic bodies," said Mellors. "This plan has been held up as a shining success by many organizations across Canada."
